Custom Price Module for Drupal / Ubercart Could Be Called the Custom Change Product Module
I posted recently about using the Ubercart Custom Price module for things other than changing the price, like changing the quantity instead: Ubercart Custom Price Module Can Be Used for Non-Price Adjustments Too. Well, you really can change other things, including things that don't affect the price even indirectly. For example, you could even change the title. Try this out:
$item->title = 'My funky test title';

This is can be used in many different ways, whether its using CCK textfield values, Ubercart product attribute values, or in other ways. For example, one could count the number of letters in a textfield and then alter the price or use the value of an product attribute.

Ubercart is our Choice for eCommerce Sites in Drupal and eCommerce Sites in General
Ubercart (with Drupal) is not the only eCommerce package that we have used or could use for open source software-based eCommerce web development. We've built eCommerce sites in other platforms like Zen Cart, and we've checked out others like Magento. In the open source software category, there are many decent platforms and some that really excel in specific ways.

Drupal Ubercart Tips & Tricks: Achieving Tiered Flat Rate Shipping Without Programming
I was rather surprised at the number of shipping modules and options for Drupal (Ubercart) that would not do what I wanted it to do. A client simply wanted one of three shipping rates to be assigned based on the total number of products in an order. It should have been simple. Creating a table-based type of shipping rate in Zen Cart is very easy to do. But after working through the Flat Rate module, Rate Based module, and others, the site still wasn't quoting the shipping rates accurately.

Open Source Software and Its Communities Continue to Thrive
Not that I have a general problem with commercial software, I am happy to see that numerous open source software communities and initiatives continue to thrive. Yes, there exists many die hard fans of open source software, just as there are some who think it is the bane of the software world. I happen to sit somewhere in between - I can appreciate both. And I use both.
